For staff

The ceremony was held in person for the first time since 2019.

For a colleague to write a nomination for you is a testament to the positive impact you have had on them, your department or institution, or indeed the whole University.

Emma Rampton, Registrary

Winners of the 2022 Professional Services Awards were announced on 12 December at a ceremony at the Fitzwilliam Museum. Across eight categories 12 individual winners and 10 teams were recognised for their work.

Speaking at the event, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr Anthony Freeling, and the Registrary, Emma Rampton, thanked staff for the contributions they make to the University. Dr Freeling emphasised the vital role professional services staff play in enabling and responding to change.

Emma Rampton congratulated everyone who received a nomination, telling shortlisted nominees “For a colleague to write a nomination for you is a testament to the positive impact you have had on them, your department or institution, or indeed the whole University.”

Ms Rampton continued by highlighting the importance of kindness, a standout theme in this years’ nominations. “The kindness you all show does not go unnoticed. This year, we received lots of nominations from academic members of staff, as well as others in professional services. This demonstrates the brilliant service you provide to our academic community, and in turn the fundamental contribution you make to the University’s academic mission,” she said.

Emma King, Departmental Administrator in Politics and International Studies, was named as the first ever winner of the Jonathan Nicholls Rising Star Award. This award recognises those who are likely to go far in their professional services career, and has been created in memory of Dr Nicholls, who was Registrary at Cambridge from 2007 to 2016 and sadly died earlier this year.

Special awards for teams and individuals working on the University’s response to the war in Ukraine were also announced at the ceremony. Four teams and individuals won awards for Ukraine-related work; Helena Brimson from the Cambridge Research Office; the team running summer placements for Ukrainian medical students; the Ukrainian English Language Moodle Team and Cambridge University Help for Ukraine.

More information about the awards is available on the Professional Services Recognition Scheme website
