The Grand Prix was awarded for the creation of an interactive web platform called 'History Radar 1938', which relays the Nazi annexation of Austria as a 24 hour news stream.

Each year, Europe's top heritage organisation, Europa Nostra, joins with the cultural department of the European Commission to select around 28 cases of best practice in the field of heritage management, research, education and awareness from circa 130 entries.

Dr Frederick Baker's 'History Radar 1938' web platform was selected in the category 'Awareness Raising', and was then awarded one of the seven Grand Prix that signify the best work of the whole competition. The winning work can be considered part of the digital humanities, since it uses the novel form of radar to show revolutionary historical processes.

Dr Frederick Baker said: "My vision was to show 300 individual stories that make up all perspectives on the first 24 hours of Nazi annexation of Austria, also know as the 'Anschluss'. I collected 300 stories, films, radio recordings and analysis pieces with a team of academics from the Austrian Academy of Sciences together with Dr Heidemarie Uhl. On the 11th of March 2018, at 18.00, the exact anniversary of the take over, the face of the radar was projected live onto the Bundeskanzleramt in Vienna. This was the seat of govenment in 1938 and still houses the Chancellor's offices today."

The event was covered by the media and live streamed online, where it has found a permanent home on the website of the Austrian History Museum (Haus der Geschichte Österreich).
