For staff

If you've got stuff to give away - or need something for the office - this new online resource could save money and reduce waste.

A new scheme aimed at helping reduce waste and help staff find a home for “spare stuff” is up and running.
WARPit is an online marketplace to help redistribute resources legally and conveniently within the University for free.
It is designed to make it easy for staff to find others with spare items - reducing procurement spend. It also helps staff who are disposing of “stuff” to find new owners - saving on waste disposal.
Leila McElvenney, Environment and Energy Assistant, said: “For years we have had departments coming to us needing to shift furniture or equipment because of an office move or an upgrade and, because there is no system for this to be redistributed, it unfortunately goes to waste.
“Now with the WARPit tool people can advertise items across the University. to be claimed by individuals or departments for use at work; not only reducing items to landfill, but also avoiding paying for new items. It just makes sense.”
The online marketplace opened for business in December and is going well says McElvenney. She added: “We have had such a great response to the tool already. Shortly after we launched the system we had a department ring us up to say they needed to shift hundreds of items including desks, chairs, and cupboards."
