The Revd Dr Susan Durber, formerly Principal of Westminster College, is to preach the University Sermon on Sunday, 29 January.

Dr Susan Durber is Minister of the United Reformed Church, Taunton, and Moderator of the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches.

Educated at the Universities of Oxford and Manchester, her PhD was written on the work of Jacques Derrida and its implications for the reading of the parables of Jesus. In addition to her current pastorate in Somerset, Dr Durber has also served in Manchester, Salford and Oxford, where she was also Joint Reformed Chaplain to the University. She was Principal of Westminster College from 2007-13 and has also been Theology Advisor to Christian Aid.

Dr Durber has published on preaching, parables and on overcoming poverty, and is a regular contributor to anthologies of prayers. In 1994 she co-edited 'Silence in Heaven: Book of Women's Preaching' with Heather Walton and published 'As Man and Woman Made: Theological Reflections on Marriage'. More recent works have included 'Preaching like a Woman' (2007), 'Surprised by Grace' (2013) and 'Poverty: The Inclusive Church Resource', edited by Bob Callaghan (2014). Her latest publication was the opening chapter to 'The Universities We Need', edited by Stephen Heap (2017).

The Choir of Girton College will sing at the Sermon, which will take place in the University Church, Great St Mary's, at 11.15am.

All are welcome and there will be a wine-reception in Michaelhouse afterwards for those present. Members of the University attending should wear their gowns.
