Professor Robin Kirkpatrick will preach the University Sermon on Sunday, 1 May.

Robin Kirkpatrick, Emeritus Professor of Italian and English Literature, has taught in the Department of Italian and the Faculty of English since 1978. After an undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford, he subsequently completed his PhD at Cambridge and has been a Fellow of Robinson College since 1978, making him one of its earliest Fellows elected soon after its foundation in 1977. He has also taught in Hong Kong and Dublin.

Robin is particularly interested in the relationship between Italian and English literature from 1300 to 1600 and also during the Modern Period, he has worked on Dante and Shakespeare and his research interests also include Theology. He is the author of a number of books on Dante, the English Renaissance and early Italian poetry, and his acclaimed verse translation of Dante's Commedia with accompanying commentary was published by Penguin Classics (2006-7).

Professor Kirkpatrick's teaching focuses in the area of verse and performance and volumes of his own poetry appeared in 1998 (Prologues and Palinodes) and 2013 (A Collection).

The Choir of Robinson College will sing at the service, which takes place in the University Church, Great St Mary's, at 11.15 a.m. All are welcome and there will be a wine-reception in Michaelhouse afterwards for those present.

Members of the University attending should wear their gowns.
