For staff

A new networking group will give creative staff a forum to share ideas and promote their artwork.

Sarah Ormrod, Director of International Programmes, is setting up a network for creative staff to share ideas and run joint art exhibitions in the University. The group will be open to all University staff who create artwork as a hobby and not as part of their work.

The group will showcase the hidden talents of staff and will give them the opportunity to encourage and support each other with their work, be it paintings, drawings, sculptures or any other form of artwork.

Sarah said: “The University is full of creative minds and also cares for and researches its remarkable collections of artworks. The group will be a way for those of us who are driven to create art ourselves to easily engage in conversation, even if it’s just about where to buy the best art materials.”

Sarah would also like the network to help staff who would like to exhibit their artwork, as she is running an exhibition in Selwyn College next week.

She added: “Finding an appropriate venue in the city was a challenge. It was through a chance conversation with a senior academic at Selwyn, and the support of their Fellowship, that I was able to use such a great space. I hope the University Hidden Talents network will allow staff to work together to find event spaces and hold joint exhibitions.”

If you are interested in joining the network you can contact Sarah on sjo1001@cam.ac.uk or speak to her in person at her exhibition where there will be a sign-up sheet. She will then email all interested staff about opportunities to meet and share ideas.

Sarah’s exhibition, Lasting impressions:  the sea and other passions, runs next week in the Diamond Room at Selwyn College (opening times: Monday 16th November 1pm-4.30pm, Tuesday 17th – Friday 20th November - 1pm-7pm, Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd November 10.30pm-5pm).
