Cambridgeshire County Council is inviting the public to comment on its plans to introduce safer cycle routes along Huntington Road.

A number of options have been proposed to separate cyclists and motorists between Richmond Road and the Histon Road junction. The stretch of road passes Murray Edwards and Fitzwilliam colleges and is the main route into central Cambridge from the north west of the city.

The council has launched a survey to gather views on these options, which include:

  • A raised cycle lane next to the road
  • A protected cycle lane between car parking bays and the pavement
  • A new bus stop layout which will allow cyclists to overtake buses without merging with motorists
  • Improvements to the Histon Road junction
  • Resurfacing the outbound cycle lane, should further funding become available

Further details of the possible improvements can be found on the council’s website. The survey, which closes on Monday, 27th June, is available here. Feedback from the survey will be considered by the council’s Economy and Environment Committee in September and construction could start in 2017.

Representatives from Cambridgeshire County Council will be available to answer questions about the proposals at two informal drop-in events at Murray Edwards (The Foyer Room, Buckingham House) on Thursday, 26 May from 5.30-8.30pm and Tuesday, 7 June from 4.30-7.30pm.
