For staff

A new awards scheme aims to recognise and reward outstanding public engagement.

Are you an academic, postgraduate research student or member of staff with demonstrable commitment to public engagement?

Are you interested in the prospect of winning £1,000?

If you answer yes to both of the above, you may be interested in entering the inaugural Public Engagement with Research awards.

The awards have been set up to recognise and reward those who take part in high-quality public engagement as part of their research. That might include – but is not limited to – organising workshops, festivals and science cafes; engaging through social media and broadcasting; involving people in research; and working with schoolchildren and teachers to enrich learning experiences.

Winners will be presented with a £1,000 cash prize, a trophy and a certificate at an award ceremony in June hosted by the Vice-Chancellor.

Nominations are welcome from  individuals and teams – but only one application is permitted for each public engagement initiative. They will be judged by a panel that includes Paul Manners, Director of the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement, Rick Holliman, Professor of Engaged Research at the Open University, and Brad Stombock, Chief Executive Officer at the Cambridge Council for Voluntary Services.

The deadline for nominations is Monday, 19 April 2016. Staff can nominate themselves or their colleagues by completing a form, or they can contact the Public Engagement team to discuss a submission.

Further information, including a detailed overview of eligibility and criteria, are available on the Public Engagement website.
