Dr Andrew Jackson joins the University in May 2024

Following the retirement of Dr Peter Hedges at the end of last year, Dr Andrew Jackson has been appointed Director of Research Services. He takes up the position in May 2024.

As Head of the Research Office (comprising the Research Operations Office and the Research Strategy Office), Andrew will work with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, the Heads of the Schools and the Research Policy Committee in shaping and implementing the University’s research strategy, as well as overseeing the provision of research support services across the institution.

Andrew comes to Cambridge from the University of Hull, which he joined in October 2023 as Executive Director, Research, Knowledge Exchange and Commercialisation. Previously he was Director of Research, Innovation and Knowledge Exchange at the University of York.

Holding a PhD in Electronics, Andrew started his career in technical development and project management roles in industry before moving into higher education. He has worked in business development roles – responsible for commercialisation and knowledge transfer – at the University of York and the Higher Education Academy, and was Director of Research and Innovation Services at Durham University from 2015 to 2021.
