28 January, 13.00-14.30, Babbage Lecture Theatre.

All members and prospective members of USS at Cambridge are invited to an open meeting on 28 January, 13.00-14.30 in the Babbage Lecture Theatre, which will cover the second report of the Joint Expert Panel (JEP).

This is the next in a series of meetings that are aimed at keeping members informed on negotiations about the USS pension scheme.

The JEP was set up after employers and members failed to reach agreement on benefit reform following the disputed 2017 valuation of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). The second report, published on 13 December 2019, gives the panel’s recommendations for making future improvements to the USS valuation process and scheme governance. The report, and a summary of the recommendations, are available on the JEP’s website. Updates on USS from the University, including its submission to JEP2, are available on the USS webpages.

The report has been welcomed by Universities UK and the University and College Union and further discussions will take place in January 2020 on the recommendations made in the report.

The open meeting will provide an opportunity for members to discuss the report with Anthony Odgers, the University’s Chief Financial Officer and UUK-appointed member of the USS Joint Negotiating Committee, and Daniel Weiss, Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Divinity and member of Cambridge UCU’s Executive Committee.

The meeting will be recorded for the benefit of those who are unable to attend, and a link to the recording will be sent to members and prospective members shortly after.
