Mark is currently Head of Sport at Durham University.
He was previously Head of Sports Programmes at British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) and will take up the post at Cambridge in January 2025.
At Durham he manages the delivery of the University’s sporting blueprint, with a strong focus on performance sport, maintaining Durham’s top three position in BUCS, overseeing the development of the largest intramural sporting competition in the UK, and continuing the University’s engagement with multiple community partners.
While at BUCS, Mark oversaw the growth and development of the largest universities sporting programme in Europe, working extensively with national governing bodies of sport, and national sporting agencies.
He is a governor at his daughter’s school and enjoys road cycling.
Mark takes over as Director of Sport at Cambridge from Nick Brooking, who stepped down earlier this year, and will build on Nick’s excellent work in increasing support to clubs, improving facilities, and introducing a range of new programmes.
Speaking about his new role at Cambridge, Mark said: “I am thrilled to have been appointed to this role and recognise the history and responsibility that comes with the job. I understand that there is a strong sporting ecosystem at Cambridge and I look forward to building on the work that has already taken place to support students participating at all levels, and use the power of sport to provide an inclusive and diverse network of opportunities, be that on the field of play, in a University environment, or supporting new wellbeing initiatives.”
