For staff

The University has launched a website to improve the induction process for new starters.

It contains essential information for staff, including guidance on relocation, pay and benefits, and aims to complement the local induction programmes that take place throughout the University.

The website also has a section for managers and administrators, with a toolkit of documents to support them in welcoming new members to their teams.

It was created following a review of the University’s induction process by the Human Resources department, which took into account feedback from a number of school and departmental staff surveys. The review found that staff generally have a good sense of what is happening locally when they join, but more could be done to help them understand what the wider University has to offer.

The website aims to address this by directing visitors to a wealth of general information, as well as hosting information for staff who are responsible for welcoming new colleagues to their teams. It includes updated versions of many of the University’s induction documents – including checklists and ‘Welcome Letter’ templates – which can downloaded and adapted for local inductions.

The site can be accessed here and has been developed as part of a wider initiative to improve induction at the University, with a review of the ‘Welcome to Cambridge’ event taking place in the Michaelmas Term. Staff can find out more about the induction process by speaking to their HR Business Managers and Advisors.
