Researchers on the Biomedical Campus will benefit from a new Postdoc Centre opening on Tuesday.
The centre, established by the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPdA), will provide a meeting and office space, a library and an information service for postdocs and their families. Based in the Clinical Schools, the facility is at the heart of the Biomedical Campus which is home to nearly 1,000 researchers.
Dr Rob Wallach, Director of the OPdA, hopes its location will strengthen relationships across the campus. He said: “The centre will provide a base for the postdoc community to engage with the expanding number of research institutes, clinical bodies and the industry partners currently, and soon to be, on the site.
“Our postdocs already work closely with the different University departments on the site and we have strong links with AstraZeneca. We are starting to build relationship with the Medical Research Council, Sanger and Babraham institutes and these fledgling and developing relationships will benefit from this new space, where researchers can meet, network, engage and develop ideas.”
The facility will build on the success of the existing centre in Mill Lane and will be followed by a third, currently being developed on the North West Cambridge Development, which will open by June 2017.
Commenting on the importance of these facilities, Karina Prasad, Head of OPdA, said: “The University leads on developing, supporting and broadening the horizons of its postdocs and our new centre continues this tradition. The OPdA recognises that staff are spread across different sites and in pursuing our vision of inclusion, developing a sense of community and creating different networks, these facilities need to be firmly embedded in key locations across Cambridge.”
The Biomedical Campus centre officially opens on Tuesday 13th September and staff can book the facility through the OPdA website.
