For staff

The Uni4 bus will be replaced by an improved service next month, connecting many University sites to Cambridge railway station.

Managed by Whippet, the service – called Universal - will be the first to directly link the West Cambridge site to the railway station, with an additional stop at the North West Cambridge Development planned for early next year.

Staff will benefit from more frequent buses - leaving every fifteen minutes during the week - and a new Saturday service, with tickets remaining at £1 a journey for University card holders.

The improvements follow a review of the Uni4 by the Environment and Energy team as part of the University’s Travel Plan, which aims to provide viable and accessible sustainable travel options for staff and students.

Jess Cunningham, Travel Plan Manager, said: “Connecting the places that people want and need to get to are a vitally important. We are continually working with local councils and businesses to improve the city’s transport infrastructure and the Universal bus will be a major boost for Cambridge, particularly as it launches ahead of the arrival of residents at the North West Cambridge Development. ”

Initially the service will use the same route as the current Uni4 bus but with an additional stop at the railway station. Later in the year the route will use the Guided Busway between the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and the railway station, cutting out Hills Road, to improve its reliability.

Whippet have launched a dedicated Twitter account to provide live updates and staff can share their views on the service with the Environment and Energy team by emailing travel@admin.cam.ac.uk.
