The University Council has submitted to the Regent House the names of eight renowned individuals, seeking authority for their admission to Honorary Doctorates at a Congregation in the Senate House on Wednesday 20 June 2018.
The nominees are:
Doctor of Law
Sir Leszek Borysiewicz (Wolfson, St Edmund's and Homerton Colleges), Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Medicine Emeritus, physician, immunologist and academic leader
Doctor of Medical Science
Dame Frances Ashcroft (Girton College), Royal Society GlaxoSmithKline Research Professor, University of Oxford, medical physiologist
Doctors of Science
Professor Emmanuelle Charpentier, Director, Department of Regulation in Infection Biology at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, Berlin and Honorary Professor, The Humboldt University, microbiologist, geneticist and biochemist
Dr Venkatraman Ramakrishnan (Trinity College), Group Leader in the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, President of the Royal Society, structural biologist
Doctors of Letters
Sir Michael Edwards (Christ’s College), Professor at the Collège de France and member of the Académie française, poet and literary scholar
Professor Robert Evans (Jesus College), Regius Professor of History Emeritus, University of Oxford, historian
Professor Ira Katznelson (Sidney Sussex and St John’s Colleges), Pitt Professor of American History and Institutions 2017-18 and Ruggles Professor, Columbia University, political scientist and historian
Ms Joyce Reynolds (Newnham College), Reader in Roman Historical Epigraphy Emerita, classicist and epigrapher
