For staff

Cycle to Work Day 2018 takes place on 15 August and there are lots of ways University staff can get involved.

Now in its sixth year, Cycle to Work Day is the UK's largest cycling event to celebrate everyday cycling. Cambridge has a proud cycling tradition and the University has one of the highest rates of cycling in the UK - 39% of staff cycle every day which removes the need for a possible 4,495 cars on the roads of Cambridge!

Cycling in the city helps keep us healthy and reduces both congestion and air pollution. The University is keen to promote sustainable travel wherever possible, and there are a number of events being offered to celebrate Cycle to Work Day.

Photo competition

Have some fun and take part in our photo competition! All you need to do is take a photo of you and your bike, tag us on Instragram or Twitter @cambridgesust and tell us a bit about your bike. You can tell us about your commute or any adventures you've undertaken by bike, big or small. The winning photo will win a free bike service, with runners-up also receiving a prize. Happy snapping!

Bike purchase with the CycleScheme

Rutland Cycles will be in the Courtyard on the Downing Site in front of the Botany Building from 11am-2pm and Townsend Light Blue Cycles at Greenwich House between 11am and 2pm if you want to take a look at some of the bikes they offer. Both of these stores are part of CycleScheme which means that you can save between 25% and 39% on a brand new bike. To find out more about how the scheme works, click here. The Cambens team will also be at the cycle seminar to tell you all about the different discounts and explaining how the cycle scheme works. You can sign up to the seminar here

Learn how to fix your bike

We are holding a free cycle maintenance workshop from 5pm to 7pm in the Courtyard on the Downing Site. Come along if you want to learn how to carry out basic repairs to your bike in times of need. Bookings can be made online via this link. Spaces are limited so book your spot before it's too late. Please note this is only available to University staff, and does not include College staff.

Have your bicycle fixed by Dr Bike

The ever popular Dr Bike is back! The mechanics will be in the Courtyard on the Downing Site from 8.30am carrying out checks on bikes. Spaces are limited so book online soon to avoid disappointment. Please note this is only available to University staff, and does not include College staff.

Learn more about cycling in Cambridge

Come along to the 1 hour 'Ins and Outs of cycling in Cambridge' talk held over lunchtime. An instructor will give you top tips and advice about cycling in the city, and you'll have the opportunity to hear from the Cambens team about cycling benefits available to staff. Feel free to bring your lunch! Book online here. Please note this is only available to University staff, and does not include College staff.

Spread the word

You can promote Cycle to Work Day in your department using one of these posters or you could organise a lunchtime cycle. If you would like to give away some cycle safety items as part of your event, please get in touch at travel@admin.cam.ac.uk
