The University’s Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor will be recognised for his work on infectious diseases.

Professor Maskell, who is also Marks & Spencer Professor of Farm Animal Health, Food Science and Food Safety, will be awarded an Honorary Associateship by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons on 7 July at the RCVS’s Royal College Day.

Professor Maskell joined the Department of Veterinary Medicine as Marks & Spencer Professor in 1996 and he was appointed Head of Department in October 2004. He held that position until 2013, when he stood down and was appointed Head of the School of Biological Sciences. In 2015 he was made Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the University, responsible for planning and resources.

His research interests focus on infection and immunity. He is a member of the Bacterial Infection Group, which works on a number of different pathogens and covers many aspects of infection, ranging from the nature of the bacteria themselves through to the mechanisms involved in the host recognising and resisting infection.
