For staff

The success of the University relies on the skills, knowledge and experience of its employees, across all staff groups, grades, areas and roles.

In line with the University Wellbeing Strategy, which defines wellbeing as ‘creating an environment to promote a state of contentment which allows an employee to flourish and achieve their full potential for the benefit of themselves and their organisation’ (CIPD 2016), the responsibility for supporting ongoing professional development lies with individuals, leaders and managers across all levels of the organisation.

It is well-recognised that most learning happens in the workplace and on-the-job, supported by managers and colleagues who provide opportunities to practice and helpful feedback. To complement this, there are also a wide range of central and local providers within the University who can support learning with guidance, resources and more formalised learning activities. For more information on supporting successful learning for yourself and others see Approaches to learning and more at PPD on demand.

University learning and development providers

Some of these provide opportunities for employees across all staff groups and roles, others are focussed on particular disciplines, groups or areas of responsibility. It is not exhaustive and other opportunities may also be available in your local workplace or Department; contact your local administrator for further information.

For many of these providers, you can search for scheduled events on the University Training Booking System (UTBS). You can also view your own training history at www.training.cam.ac.uk/person/YOUR-CRS-ID/training-history [NOTE: please edit the link with your CRSid details].
