As a world-leading institution, Cambridge can often take for granted recruitment and promotion on the basis of "merit". But what is meant by "merit"? Does the current definition in Cambridge contribute to sustaining racial inequalities? The keynote speaker Baroness Valerie Amos, Director of SOAS University of London, will explore these topics looking at perceptions of "merit" and how they influence and impact understanding of discrimination and prejudice.
