For staff

Jenny Blakesley will take up the post in June.

Most recently Director of Careers at the London School of Economics, Jenny Blakesley comes to Cambridge with over 15 years’ experience in university careers advice. She was formerly Head of the Careers Service at King’s College London and has also worked in careers at Queen Mary, University of London, SOAS and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She served as Vice-President of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services from 2012 to 2014.

The Careers Service at Cambridge is consistently ranked among the top in Western Europe and was highly commended in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework. It was subject to an internal review in 2017, and the new Director will be responsible for taking forward the findings of that review and developing a new strategy for the Careers Service, which will form part of the University’s education strategy.

Alice Benton, Head of Education Services, said: “I am delighted that Jenny has been appointed Director of the Careers Service. Her deep understanding of the sector and many years of leadership experience will be invaluable in developing a new strategy for the service and making sure that we continue to provide the best possible careers support for our students, alumni and postdoctoral researchers.”

Jenny Blakesley said: “It feels like a very exciting time to be joining the University of Cambridge Careers Service. I’m very much looking forward to meeting colleagues across the whole institution as we look to develop a new strategy and capitalise on the opportunities for collaboration and innovation."
