Joanna Simpson has been appointed Head of Environment and Energy in the University's Estate Management Division.

Joanna Simpson has been appointed to the new post of Head of Environment and Energy at the University. She provides strategic direction to the University and is responsible for developing and implementing long-term plans to reduce the University’s carbon emissions and improve its environmental sustainability. She was previously the University’s Environmental Officer in the Estate Management Division.

Prior to joining the University in July 2012, Joanna was Senior Policy Adviser for Sustainable Development at HEFCE, leading the development and implementation of HEFCE’s sustainable development strategy and action plan, working on projects to promote good practice and advising government and higher education organisations. She also led HEFCE’s work to improve its own corporate social responsibility.

She was educated at the universities of Nottingham and Southampton, is a Chartered Environmentalist and a full member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment. Prior to joining HEFCE in 2005 she was Assistant Energy and Environmental Manager at the University of Bristol and served on the Executive of the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges.
