For staff

Professor Geoff Ward has become the new Principal of Homerton, joining the College from Royal Holloway College, University of London.

Professor Ward was Vice Principal for Students and Staff at Royal Holloway College, where he previously served as Dean of Arts. Prior to that he was Professor of English and Head of Department at the University of Dundee before taking on the role of Deputy Principal.

He started his university career at Cambridge, studying English at Clare where he obtained a first and subsequently taught for several Cambridge colleges. An expert on American literature, he has written a number of books as well as a novel, published poems and given talks on Radio 3.

Speaking of his appointment, he said: "Homerton has more students than any other College at the University, and has the largest campus – but it has only been fully recognised as a College for two years.

"Unlike many of the Colleges, we do not have the burdens of long tradition constraining us. There is a lot to play for, and my goal is to encourage the academic achievements of both students and academics at Homerton – which are already considerable - to even greater heights."
