For staff

Two interim appointments have been made to lead and support the Estate Management Division, following the departure of Dr Jason Matthews as Director of Estate Strategy in July 2019.

Graham Matthews has joined the University as Interim Director of Estates. He will have overall responsibility for the Division. Graham’s most recent role has been at Auckland International Airport where he led the development and delivery of the airport’s $6bn expansion programme. Before that, he held senior positions in property and construction consultancy, where his responsibilities included public sector business, including Higher Education. Graham is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Graham describes his approach as one that is centred on the people that work and study here, saying: “My real focus is understanding how we want the estate to work for us, and how we can create exciting and innovative places that respond to these needs.”

Jerry Headley has been appointed as Interim Director of Estate Management. Jerry will be responsible for Facilities Management and Business Services. Jerry was Airport Engineering General Manager at Edinburgh Airport, and also spent 12 years with the Scottish Parliament, starting as Head of Facilities Management and progressing to Director level with additional responsibility for events, exhibitions and visitor services. More recently, Jerry has held interim roles in a variety of universities.

Emma Rampton, the Registrary, said: “Graham and Jerry bring to the University a wealth of experience in Estate Management and I am delighted to have the benefit of their leadership and support.”
