Ángel studied International Relations at El Colegio de México, in Mexico City, before moving to Cambridge as a postgraduate student. He completed a PhD in History at Emmanuel College, under the supervision of Professor Peter Burke, after which he worked for many years as a journalist, speechwriter and literary translator. Ángel joined the University in 2012 as International Strategy Officer, and in 2016 moved to the Office of External Affairs and Communications. He became Acting Head of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office in May 2018.

On his appointment, Ángel said: “It has been incredibly rewarding to support the Vice-Chancellor and the University as an Acting Head of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office. I’m delighted to take on the role in a more formal capacity. I look forward to working closely with colleagues across the University at a very exciting and challenging time.”

“To have Ángel in the VCO over the past few months has been terrific,” said the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stephen J Toope. “I’m confident he will continue to do an outstanding job in a critical role.”
