The Reverend Professor Ben Quash is to preach the Hulsean Sermon on Sunday, 26 February.

Preached on 'The Truth and Excellence of Revealed Religion, or the Evidence of Christianity' this Sermon originates in the will of John Hulse, of St John's College, who died in 1790.

Ben Quash is Professor of Christianity and the Arts at King’s College London, where he is also Director of the Centre for Arts and the Sacred, and Canon Theologian of Coventry and Bradford Cathedrals.

After reading English at Peterhouse and then theology whilst an ordinand at Westcott House, his doctoral work focused on the theological dramatic theory of Hans Urs von Balthasar. Chaplain and Fellow of Fitzwilliam College and a lecturer in the Cambridge Theological Federation 1996-99, he was later Dean and Fellow of Peterhouse and also Academic Convenor of the Cambridge Inter-Faith Programme in the Faculty of Divinity, before moving to King's College London in 2007.

Concerned with theological aesthetics and the intrinsic theological interest in literature, drama, the visual arts and music, he is currently investigating how the arts stimulate renewed engagement with the Bible and the shaping of Christian ethics by liturgy and scripture.

Professor Quash's publications include 'Heresies and How to Avoid Them: Why It Matters What Christians Believe', 2007 (with Michael Ward), 'Introducing Christian Ethics', 2010 (with Samuel Wells), 'Abiding', 2012 (The Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent Book 2013) and 'Found Theology: History, Imagination and the Holy Spirit', 2013.

The Choir of Fitzwilliam College will sing at the service, which takes place in the University Church, Great St Mary's, at 11.15 a.m. There will be a wine-reception in Michaelhouse afterwards. All are welcome and members of the University attending should wear their gowns.
