For staff

Professor William Harris, Dr Jenny Nichols, Dr Hadi Boukhatmi and Marcia Kishida recognised for their work.

Four members of Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience received awards at this week's BSCB/BSDB/Genetics Society Joint Spring meeting, held at the University of Warwick.

Professor William Harris (pictured), Head of the Department, received the 2017 Waddington Medal. The prize is the only national award in developmental biology, and is awarded for outstanding research performance as well as services to the subject community. It is awarded annually at the British Society Developmental Biology Spring Meeting, where the recipient presents the Waddington Medal Lecture. The award is dedicated to Conrad Waddington, leading British embryologist and geneticist who was highly influential in the development of both subjects during the 1930's through to the 1960's.

Dr Jenny Nichols received the BSDB Cheryll Tickle Medal, which is awarded to mid-career female scientists for their outstanding achievements in the field of Developmental Biology. She is the second person to be awarded the prize since its inception.

The BSDB postdoc poster prize was won by Dr Hadi Boukhatmi, a postdoc member of Professor Sara Bray's lab. Dr Boukhatmi's research focuses on Drosophila muscle cells. Finally, the BSCB Science Writing Competition was won by Marcia Kishida, a PhD student and member of Angie Fleming and Professor Roger Keynes Groups.
